 Maybe I Could Paint That

A finished watercolour can look daunting, but you don’t have to work it all out yourself. Louise breaks each painting down into manageable steps and explains what she’s doing and why along the way.

You might be surprised by what you can paint when someone shows you how.

 How Louise Teaches

Louise doesn’t just tell you what to do next. She shows you what to look for while you’re painting, how wet the paper is, how much water and pigment are on the brush, when an edge should soften, when to wait, and why she makes each decision.

Louise often describes this level of wetness as “juicy like an orange”.

See what’s happening on the paper
Louise shows you the surface of the paper, the consistency of the paint and how much moisture she’s working with, so you can compare it with your own painting.

Understand why she makes each decision
She explains why she uses wet-on-wet or wet-on-dry, changes pigment strength, softens an edge, adds another layer or waits for the paper to dry.

Know what to do when things change
Watercolour doesn’t always behave exactly as expected. Louise shows you what to watch for and how she adjusts as she paints.

“I want you to understand why I’m doing something, not just copy what I do. That way you can start making those decisions for yourself.”
— Louise
